Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening at our practice lets you say goodbye to stained, yellow or discoloured teeth!

The colour of our teeth is determined by our genes and our age – as we get older our teeth naturally become more yellow. Coffee, tea, smoking and wine – these are just a few of life’s little pleasures that can, over time, stain your teeth and leave you feeling less attractive.

When a whitening product is applied to the tooth, it breaks down into

water and oxygen ions. The oxygen ions enter the enamel and attack the long stain molecules to effectively break them down to be short and colourless. These short and colourless molecules are then naturally removed from the tooth by saliva. The intensity of whitening is related to the number of oxygen ions available and the length of time they are on the tooth. Clinical research has shown that teeth whitening with carbamide or hydrogen peroxide if done correctly under the application or instruction of dentist, is safe for teeth and gums. Our whitening products work straight through the enamel and do not harm tooth surface.
Teeth whitening is one of the easiest ways to enhance your looks. Whether you want to add a sparkle to your wedding day or perfect your look for business meetings, whitening is simple, affordable and safe. At our Coulsdon dental clinic we offer a range of teeth whitening services which are tailored to your requirement.

Option A - Standard Home Whitening

This teeth whitening method uses custom-made, thin plastic trays, which are supplied with and are designed to hold a teeth whitening gel to whiten your teeth at home. These trays – one for your top teeth and one for your bottom teeth – are made at the surgery by casting a model of your teeth. The teeth whitening process involves wearing the gel-filled trays for few hours every day or night for 2-3 weeks. They can both be worn at the same time or separately. Results vary, but if used correctly all natural teeth will whiten dramatically.

Option B - Premium Enlighten Home whitening

This premium whitening system gives a guaranteed whitening effect. It has 98% success rate. Custom-made trays are made at a specialised laboratory and they are worn in bed for 2 weeks. Then you need to see your dentist for a review appointment. A very small number of patients may also need an additional in surgery power whitening if desired results are not achieved in 2 weeks, however there is no additional cost should you require this. The price also includes a tube of tooth serum toothpaste, which is advised to use prior to whitening while you wait for your trays. This prolongs the results and also helps with sensitivity.
Whitening must be suitable for your mouth. Our dentist will assess this at your first appointment.
